US considers sanctions on Israeli units and officers over settler violence
The Trump administration is considering punitive measures against specific Israeli military units and officers in response to escalating settler violence against Palestinians in the West Bank. According to reports, these potential sanctions include restricting certain military units from using American-made weapons in specific areas.
U.S. officials are also reportedly preparing a blacklist of Israeli army and police officers who may be held responsible for allowing or supporting settler attacks. The administration is monitoring reports regarding the involvement of Israeli security agencies—including the military, police, Shin Bet, and the Civil Administration—in failing to prevent, or in some cases actively participating in, these incidents.
These discussions follow a stern warning issued to Israeli security services. U.S. officials have expressed concern that settler violence is being used to create new facts on the ground ahead of Israeli elections. It is anticipated that any formal implementation of these measures may be delayed until after the Israeli elections and the U.S. midterm elections.
