U.S. Constitution prevents the tyranny of one man's opinion
The United States Constitution serves to prevent both the reality and the perception of the ‘tyranny of one man’s opinion’ through the separation of powers and due process.
Under the Fifth Amendment, the government cannot deprive individuals of life, liberty, or property through executive command alone; it requires due process, including fair jury trials. Furthermore, Article I mandates that the power to declare war rests with Congress rather than the executive branch.
The federal government is structured so that Congress writes laws and appropriates funds, the president enforces laws and wages authorized wars, and the judiciary interprets the Constitution to ensure all branches act lawfully.
