U.S. Consul General Joe Tordella confirms Florence consulate presence

Joe Tordella, the new U.S. Consul General in Florence, has officially begun his tenure, providing assurances that the consulate will remain in Florence for the foreseeable future. During his introduction to the press, Tordella expressed personal pride in returning to Italy, noting his family's historical ties to the country.

Tordella addressed regional security, stating that collaboration with local authorities ensures a safe environment for the many American citizens and students residing in Tuscany. His recent activities include meeting with the President of the Tuscany Region, Eugenio Giani.

As part of his visit, Tordella toured the YouLab space at the Biblioteca San Giorgio in Pistoia. The facility, which receives annual support from the U.S. Embassy in Rome, serves as a hub for digital innovation and inclusion. He observed students from the Istituto Fedi-Fermi providing technical support to community members, a service designed to help citizens navigate digital technologies in an accessible environment.
