US Consulate project in Lagos reaches major construction milestone
The construction of the new United States Consulate General in Lagos has reached a major milestone with a ‘Topping Off Ceremony’ at Eko Atlantic City. The ceremony marked the completion of the highest structural point of the 10-storey Chancery building.
The project has injected more than $95 million into the Nigerian economy through payments to subcontractors, suppliers, and employees across Lagos State and other regions. Additionally, the initiative has provided international-standard construction training to over 1,500 Nigerian workers to enhance their long-term competitiveness in the labor market.
Currently, the project is being managed by a team of 120 Nigerian engineers, architects, and administrators working alongside 43 American construction professionals. U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for West Africa and Public Diplomacy, Richard Michaels, stated that the compound serves as a symbol of the relationship between the two nations and represents an investment in Nigeria’s future.
