Morocco inflation rises in September driven by food and fuel costs
Morocco's consumer prices rose by 0.5% year-on-year in September, following periods of contraction in July and August. While annual inflation remains relatively low compared to previous years, monthly data shows a 1% increase from August to September.
The rise was primarily driven by a 1.6% increase in food prices—specifically meat and vegetables, which both rose by 4.3%—and a 2% increase in fuel prices. The transport sector saw the largest annual increase at 9.4%, fueled by high costs for imported fuel.
Regional disparities were noted, with Laâyoune (+2.8%) and Béni Mellal (+2.4%) seeing the highest monthly price increases, while Al Hoceïma recorded a slight decrease of 0.3%. Despite these fluctuations, the government aims to stabilize inflation at approximately 2% between 2027 and 2031.
