US Consumers Turn to AI Chatbots for Financial Advice
A recent Intuit Credit Karma study found that about two‑thirds of Americans who have tried generative AI use it for financial guidance, seeking help with debt, budgeting and other money matters.
A NerdWallet survey of over 2,000 adults reports that 26% have asked an AI chatbot personal‑finance questions, with half of those doing so in the past week. While 45% say they would trust such advice, 55% are skeptical. Around 29% of users who acted on chatbot recommendations said the advice worsened their finances, compared with 39% who said it helped. The survey also revealed that 77% of respondents have shared personal information with chatbots, including 9% who disclosed their Social Security number and 10% who provided account numbers. These findings highlight both the growing appeal and the potential risks of AI‑driven financial counseling in the United States.
