US courts revoke citizenship of two women for fraud

Federal courts in the United States have revoked the citizenship of two women following findings of deception during their naturalization processes.

In South Florida, a federal court revoked the citizenship of Milagros Marileisis Acosta Torres, a Cuban-born woman. Prosecutors established that Acosta Torres concealed her involvement in a multimillion-dollar scheme to defraud a Florida tribal casino using fraudulent credit vouchers. She was convicted of conspiracy to commit money laundering in 2020 and falsely stated during her 2015 naturalization that she had no criminal history.

In California, the US District Court for the Northern District of California revoked the citizenship of Vivian Chike Obichere, a Nigerian-born woman. The court found that Obichere had used the identity of another American citizen to obtain a passport in 1992 and 2002. During her 2013 naturalization process, she testified under oath that she had never used the fraudulent identity. Obichere was convicted in 2015 of making false statements and using a fraudulent passport.
