US commercial crude oil inventories decreased by approximately 1.9 million barrels to 410.6 million barrels for the week ending October 23, according to data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA). This decline significantly contradicted market expectations, which had forecasted a build of roughly 100,000 barrels.

Strategic petroleum reserves also saw a slight reduction of 100,000 barrels, bringing them to 282.6 million barrels. In contrast to the crude decline, gasoline stockpiles rose by 3.9 million barrels to reach 209.2 million barrels. Distillate fuel inventories also experienced a decrease.

US crude oil production saw a sharp increase of 723,000 barrels per day, reaching a level of 13.992 million barrels per day. During the same period, daily crude oil exports rose by 1.412 million barrels to 4.854 million barrels per day, while imports increased by 616,000 barrels to 6.374 million barrels per day.
