U.S. dairy industry welcomes U.S.-China Board of Trade launch
The National Milk Producers Federation and the U. S. Dairy Export Council have expressed support for the operationalization of a U. S.-China Board of Trade. The announcement includes the inclusion of dairy products in the initial scope for potential retaliatory tariff reductions.
Industry leaders noted that current retaliatory tariffs have placed U. S. dairy at a disadvantage compared to international competitors. While the move is seen as positive momentum for trade, officials emphasized that tariff relief will be implemented according to the respective domestic laws and processes of both nations rather than taking effect immediately.
Industry representatives also highlighted the importance of a two-month extension of the tariff truce and urged that proposed port fees on Chinese ships do not increase freight costs for U. S. agricultural exporters.
