US Data Center Boom Drives Small‑Cap Stock Opportunities
S&P Global reported that private‑equity investment in U.S. data centers reached $45.7 billion in 2025, accounting for 72 % of the $63.35 billion total investment in the sector. The surge was driven by a planned $40 billion acquisition of Aligned Data Centers LLC by a consortium that includes Microsoft, NVIDIA, BlackRock, Temasek, Kuwait Investment Authority and others.
The firm described the market as entering a "data center supercycle," with demand outpacing supply. As of Q3 2025 the United States housed 3,988 data centers, 2,615 operational, 1,108 planned and 265 under construction. Virginia leads with 757 facilities, while Ohio, Arizona and Georgia are poised for rapid growth.
Against this backdrop, a recent analysis identified eight U.S.‑listed small‑cap data‑center stocks that are heavily owned by hedge funds, highlighting Crexendo, Inc. (market cap $321 million) which posted a 66 % price surge over the past year. Another report noted three infrastructure companies benefiting from the building boom, reporting strong Q1 2026 earnings and raising full‑year guidance.
