U.S. Debt Survey Shows Financial Strain Causes Wedding RSVP Declines

A survey by Accredited Debt Relief and Drive Research of 2,000 U.S. adults who each carry at least $10,000 in unsecured debt found that eight in ten have skipped at least one social event in the past year, including weddings.

Sixty‑eight percent of respondents said they feel anxiety when receiving an invitation, and 57 % worry that their debt makes them appear as a bad friend or family member. The study highlights a “third RSVP option” – wanting to attend but being unable to afford the associated costs such as attire, travel, gifts and childcare. The financial pressure is reshaping social decisions and adding emotional strain for those in debt.
