US defense budget faces deadlock in Congress

The 1.5 trillion dollar defense budget proposed by President Donald Trump for the current fiscal year faces uncertainty in the US Congress. Tensions between Republicans and Democrats have deepened due to ongoing conflicts with Iran and dissatisfaction regarding the activities of Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.

The administration has split the budget request into two parts: a 1.15 trillion dollar portion that requires Democratic support, and a 350 billion dollar portion that Republicans aim to pass independently. However, no consensus has been reached on these amounts. Additionally, nearly all Senate Democrats have blocked an additional 67 billion dollar appropriation requested for military spending in response to the Iran conflict.

Data from US Central Command indicates that the cost of the conflict with Iran exceeded 47 billion dollars as of mid-October. This rising expenditure is increasing financial pressure on the Pentagon, leading to the postponement of some military exercises and delays in equipment maintenance.
