US delegation meets Hungarian Speaker to discuss parliamentary cooperation
A United States congressional delegation, led by House Rules Committee Chairwoman Virginia Foxx, met with Hungarian National Assembly Speaker Ágnes Forsthoffer in Budapest on October 8. The meeting focused on strengthening bilateral parliamentary ties and addressing Hungary’s current domestic challenges.
According to Speaker Forsthoffer, the American delegation expressed appreciation for the results of Hungary’s spring election, which ended sixteen years of rule by Viktor Orbán and the Fidesz party. Discussions between the parties covered several key priorities for the new government, including restoring public trust, stabilizing the inherited national budget, diversifying energy sources, and ensuring transparent administration.
As part of the effort to deepen relations, Forsthoffer announced plans to establish a Hungarian–US parliamentary friendship group. Currently, 34 members of parliament have expressed interest in joining the initiative, which could become one of the largest groups of its kind.
