US Democrats use Iran war votes in campaign ads

Democrats and affiliated advocacy groups are utilizing congressional votes regarding the Iran war as a central theme in campaign advertisements to challenge Republican candidates. The strategy aims to link the conflict to rising living costs, such as increased prices for groceries, gas, and utilities.

An analysis of media spending data from AdImpact shows that these war powers resolutions, which were introduced to end the conflict, have been used to force lawmakers to take public stances. In competitive midterm races, at least half of the 50 analyzed races featured the Iran war in their advertising.

In some instances, Democratic ads target Republican candidates who have not previously served in Congress and therefore could not have voted on these resolutions. In these cases, the messaging portrays the candidates as being destined to act as rubber stamps for President Donald Trump regarding the war.
