US, Denmark, and Greenland sign military expansion agreement

The United States, Denmark, and Greenland have signed a trilateral agreement to expand the American military presence on Greenland. The deal was signed by US President Donald Trump, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, and Greenlandic Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen.

Under the agreement, the US intends to establish two large military bases and increase its troop presence in the territory. While the document reaffirms Danish sovereignty and recognizes the right of Greenlanders to self-determination, the expansion of military facilities marks a significant shift in regional security arrangements.

Some analysts suggest the agreement formalizes and expands upon existing practices established by a 1951 treaty, while others view it as a strategic move by the Trump administration to secure a permanent military foothold in the Arctic. The agreement follows previous tensions regarding US interest in the territory and its strategic importance for global defense.
