U.S. Department of Energy selects 14 hydropower projects for testing vouchers
The U.S. Department of Energy’s Hydropower and Hydrokinetic Office (H2O) has selected 14 hydropower projects to receive vouchers for in-kind support through the Hydropower Testing Network (HyTN). These vouchers allow recipients to utilize one of 21 testing facilities to improve the readiness of new hydropower technologies.
This second round of selections provides access to over 65 specialized physical testing and modeling capabilities, including hydraulic, biological, and techno-economic analysis. The initiative aims to modernize existing hydropower plants and develop next-generation technologies to meet growing energy demands and reduce prices.
Among the selected projects is Dry Surface Technologies, LLC, which will collaborate with the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory to scale up production of a non-toxic antifouling coating. This coating is intended to provide a cost-effective alternative for preventing component clogging and reducing facility repairs.
