The U.S. Department of Justice has announced charges against 16 individuals across seven states for various election-related crimes. The cases involve allegations of non-citizens voting in federal elections, making false claims of U.S. citizenship to register or vote, and other offenses including naturalization fraud, passport fraud, wire fraud, and unlawful firearm purchases.

According to the DOJ, eight of the defendants reside in Texas. Other cases are distributed across Idaho, Georgia, Massachusetts, Wisconsin, New Jersey, and Michigan. Notable allegations include a Venezuelan national in Georgia accused of voting nine times between 2008 and 2024, and a Mexican national in Idaho accused of falsely claiming citizenship to vote in the 2022 and 2024 elections.

The announcement comes as part of a broader enforcement effort by the Trump administration to address election integrity. The DOJ issued a warning on social media, stating that illegal participation in American elections is a crime and is not a partisan issue.
