U.S. Department of Justice charges five in election fraud cases

The U.S. Department of Justice has announced federal charges against five individuals in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Wisconsin involving alleged illegal voting and fraudulent voter registration. The defendants include four non-U.S. citizens accused of voting illegally and one U.S. citizen accused of aiding and abetting election-related offenses connected to the 2022 or 2024 elections.

In Pennsylvania, Marisol Guzman is charged with voting as an alien, while her husband, Thomas Holtzman, faces charges for making false statements of citizenship and aiding and abetting. Additionally, Katya Rodriguez, a Mexican national, has been indicted in Harrisburg. Attorney General Todd Blanche stated that election integrity is fundamental to democracy, and FBI Director Kash Patel emphasized that the bureau is prioritizing investigations into credible allegations of fraud.

Data from the Justice Department indicates a significant increase in prosecutions of noncitizens for election fraud under the current administration. Since Donald Trump took office for his second term, prosecutors have charged approximately 50 noncitizen defendants, compared to 13 noncitizens charged during the entirety of the Biden administration. Officials noted that the current pace of charges is nearly ten times the annualized rate of the previous administration.
