U.S. Department of Justice charges non-citizens with election crimes

The U.S. Department of Justice has announced charges against multiple non-citizens for election-related crimes, including illegal voting and fraudulent voter registration across the country.

In North Carolina, a federal grand jury indicted 10 non-citizens for allegedly falsely claiming U.S. citizenship to vote in the 2024 elections. The group includes one undocumented individual and nine lawful permanent residents. Among those charged are three German nationals residing in Cumberland County who allegedly voted in various elections spanning from 2004 to 2024. One defendant, Eduardd Omar Majano Sosa, is charged with falsely claiming citizenship and voting by an alien.

In a separate enforcement action, 16 individuals have been charged with various election offenses, including voting on behalf of deceased persons and making false statements on citizenship applications. This includes Eliza M. Moss, a 63-year-old Filipino lawful permanent resident in Ohio, who is accused of unlawfully voting in federal elections after signing registration forms declaring herself a U.S. citizen. Moss reportedly told investigators she was advised by an individual that she was permitted to vote despite her status.
