US Department of Justice to deploy election monitors in Ohio and Indiana

The U.S. Department of Justice has announced plans to deploy federal election monitors to several counties in Ohio and Indiana to observe upcoming elections. In Ohio, monitors are slated for Cuyahoga and Franklin counties, which are Democratic strongholds, as well as Medina County.

In Indiana, the Department of Justice notified officials that monitors will be present in Marion County (Indianapolis) and Lake County. Local officials in Marion County reported receiving little clarity regarding the specific reasons for the deployment.

According to a spokesperson for the Department of Justice, the administration plans to send approximately 1,000 monitors across all 50 states. The DOJ’s Civil Rights Division stated that the monitors are tasked solely with observing for potential violations of federal law and reporting concerns for review after Election Day. The department emphasized that monitors are not permitted to intrude or interfere with the voting process.
