US destroyer USS Arleigh Burke enters Navantia shipyard in Cádiz

The USS Arleigh Burke, a United States Navy destroyer stationed at the Naval Base in Rota, has entered the Navantia shipyard in Cádiz for maintenance. This marks the first time a vessel from the anti-missile shield has utilized the Cádiz facility's dry dock; previously, such maintenance was conducted directly at the Rota base.

Navantia holds a maintenance contract for these destroyers that was renewed in 2021 for $822 million and remains valid until 2028. The U.S. Navy plans to open a new tender for this contract at the end of 2026. The Arleigh Burke destroyer recently returned to Rota in July following deployments in the Eastern Mediterranean and the Black Sea.
