U.S. DFC allocates $5 million for antimony project in North Macedonia

The U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) has allocated up to $5 million for the development of an antimony mining project in Krstov Dol, near Kriva Palanka, North Macedonia. The funds are designated for the preparatory phase, including mineral resource analysis, environmental impact assessments, and feasibility studies required to reactivate the site.

Antimony is classified as a critical mineral essential for the energy, electronics, and defense industries. The DFC noted that supporting this project aligns with efforts to diversify global supply chains for critical minerals. Pela Global, the company developing the project, previously announced a development financing agreement in April.

During a visit to Washington, Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski emphasized that the strategic partnership between North Macedonia and the United States remains stable. He confirmed that despite U.S. decisions to reduce military aid to certain European nations, military cooperation and assistance for North Macedonia will continue and deepen, particularly within the framework of NATO and regional security.
