US DHS Orders Dismissal of Hundreds of Thousands of TPS Workers and Plans 24/7 Deportation Flights

The Department of Homeland Security instructed U.S. employers to terminate the employment of hundreds of thousands of foreign nationals holding Temporary Protected Status (TPS). Work authorizations for Haitian TPS holders will expire on July 24, while those from Ethiopia, Myanmar, Somalia, South Sudan, Syria and Yemen will lapse on July 17. The move follows a Supreme Court decision upholding the administration’s authority to end TPS protections.

In a related development, DHS announced the creation of a dedicated “deportation airline” to operate round‑the‑clock removal flights. The agency has purchased six Boeing 737‑700 aircraft and two Gulfstream 550 jets for roughly $140 million, giving Immigration and Customs Enforcement its own fleet for mass deportations. ICE has recently reported arrests of more than 10,000 undocumented individuals in a five‑day span, with a record number of deportation flights conducted in a single month.
