U.S. diplomat praises Bolivian Police Commander Mirko Sokol
Erik Martini, the Chargé d'Affaires of the United States Embassy in Bolivia, met with Bolivian Police Commander General Mirko Sokol in La Paz to discuss bilateral security cooperation. Martini praised Sokol, describing him as a “true fighter against crime.”
The meeting reflects a strengthening of diplomatic and security ties between the United States and Bolivia following the administration of President Rodrigo Paz. Key areas of cooperation include combating organized crime and narcotics trafficking.
This renewed relationship follows previous security assistance efforts, such as a $20 million commitment from the State Department’s Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) to support Bolivia in fighting drug trafficking and organized crime.
