Egypt foreign reserves hit $57.35 billion amid US dollar fluctuations

Egypt's foreign exchange reserves reached approximately $57.35 billion by the end of September 2026, marking a 15.8% annual increase compared to September 2025. This growth follows a steady upward trend throughout 2026, rising from roughly $51.45 billion in late December 2025.

Concurrently, the US dollar has experienced fluctuations against the Egyptian pound. After periods of relative stability, the dollar reached a four-month high in mid-October 2026, trading above the 52-pound threshold. At the Central Bank of Egypt, rates were recorded at approximately 52.53 EGP for buying and 52.66 EGP for selling.

Commercial banks showed varying rates. The National Bank of Egypt and Commercial International Bank reported rates around 52.53 EGP for buying and 52.63 EGP for selling, while Banque Misr offered lower rates of 52.34 EGP for buying and 52.44 EGP for selling. Analysts suggest these movements reflect routine import demands and regional geopolitical tensions rather than a fundamental shift in the exchange market.
