Argentina economic risk rises as country risk hits 11-month high

Argentina is experiencing significant economic volatility, marked by a sharp rise in country risk and fluctuations in the foreign exchange market. The JP Morgan country risk index climbed to 655 basis points, its highest level since November 2025, driven by rising U.S. Treasury yields and domestic macroeconomic concerns.

In the currency market, the blue dollar was quoted at 1,555 pesos for sale, while the retail dollar at Banco Nación stood at 1,540 pesos. The Central Bank of Argentina has resumed active interventions, purchasing 35 million USD on Friday, contributing to gross international reserves that have reached 48.653 billion USD.

Financial pressures are mounting as the Treasury faces approximately 27 trillion pesos in maturities throughout October. While President Javier Milei has suggested that country risk would drop significantly if he is re-elected, analysts note that the economy faces a cooling of activity and a decline in investment rates.
