US dollar hits record high against Honduran lempira

The US dollar has reached a historic high against the Honduran lempira, surpassing the 27 mark to reach a selling price of L27.0010. Data released by the Central Bank of Honduras (BCH) confirms a continuing trend of lempira depreciation throughout 2026.

Roberto Lagos, president of the BCH, stated that the currency's behavior remains within the projections of current exchange rate policy and does not currently warrant alarm.

However, economists have raised concerns regarding the impact on the national economy. Because Honduras relies heavily on imported raw materials, goods, and inputs, a stronger dollar increases the cost of essential items such as fuel and agricultural supplies. Experts warn that these rising costs could trigger inflationary pressure as expenses for transport, energy, and production are passed down to consumers.
