U.S. Dollar Index rises for five consecutive days amid strong economic data
The U.S. Dollar Index (DXY) has experienced a continuous five-day rally, approaching its first two-week gain period since June. This upward momentum is driven by rising U.S. Treasury yields, with 10-year and 30-year yields reaching levels not seen since 2007 and 2004, respectively.
Stronger-than-expected U.S. economic data and high oil prices have fueled concerns regarding persistent inflation and the necessity of higher interest rates. This environment has placed downward pressure on major currencies, including the Euro and the British Pound, both of which have approached multi-month lows.
Federal Reserve officials have signaled a hawkish stance. Philadelphia Fed President Anna Paulson suggested that ‘more modest tightening may be required,’ while New York Fed President John Williams indicated that another interest rate hike could be appropriate by the end of the year. Additionally, U.S. jobless claims fell unexpectedly to 197,000, signaling continued labor market resilience.
