US drug czar Sara Carter threatens Mexican officials aiding cartels

Sara Carter, director of the U.S. Office of National Drug Control Policy, told the American Thought Leaders program that the Trump administration will pursue legal action against Mexican politicians who facilitate drug‑trafficking organizations. She said Washington will “follow the money and take it away,” targeting those who have been “sold out to the cartels.” Carter cited recent cooperation with Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum in operations against the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, including actions against its leader El Mencho. She warned that officials who do not cooperate will be “put in the sights” of U.S. investigators, reiterating the president’s statement: “If he says ‘We’re coming after you, cooperate or you’ll regret it,’ then the question is: do you cooperate? Yes or no.”
