US economic data strengthens expectations of Fed rate delay

Recent US macroeconomic data has strengthened expectations that the Federal Reserve may delay interest rate hikes. The US economy grew at an annualized rate of 2.2% in the second quarter, surpassing the 1.5% forecast.

Inflation indicators show signs of cooling. The core personal consumption expenditures (PCE) price index, a key metric for the Fed, rose 0.2% monthly and 3% annually in August, coming in below market expectations of a 0.3% monthly and 3.3% annual increase. Additionally, US private sector employment grew by 90,000 in September, exceeding market predictions.

Analysts suggest these figures support a 'soft landing' scenario, where inflation is brought under control without triggering a recession. Consequently, market pricing for an October rate hike has significantly declined, falling from 70% to 38%.
