U.S. Election Integrity Issues Reported in Pennsylvania and Washington
Election officials in Pennsylvania and Washington are addressing separate issues regarding voter rolls and ballot distribution.
In Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, human error led to the accidental mailing of 157 duplicate ballots for the 2026 midterm elections. The Pennsylvania Department of State assured the public that safeguards within the Statewide Uniform Registry of Electors (SURE) database will prevent more than one vote from being counted per voter. The system is designed to recognize duplicate barcodes on return envelopes and block them from being processed. The error reportedly began when a county employee encountered a system error while downloading mail ballot requests.
In Washington, the Department of Justice has requested that the state set aside ballots cast by more than 400 registered voters suspected of being noncitizens. Acting U.S. Attorney Neil Floyd stated that the identified individuals have voted in multiple elections. Washington Secretary of State Steve Hobbs responded that his office will review the DOJ’s request while ensuring due process and protecting voter information from potential harassment.
