US electric vehicle market rebounds in Q2 2026

U.S. electric‑vehicle sales climbed to roughly 247,000 units in the second quarter of 2026, the strongest quarterly performance since the federal EV tax credit expired in late 2025. The increase reflects growing consumer interest driven by more affordable models, expanding charging infrastructure and higher fuel prices.

Tesla kept its lead, with the Model Y remaining the best‑selling EV and the Model 3 also posting gains. Rivian delivered 12,194 vehicles, beating its own forecasts, while Toyota more than doubled its U.S. EV sales year‑over‑year, moving up the rankings. Analysts note that despite the rebound, sales are still below 2025 levels and some manufacturers are reassessing future EV projects.
