U.S. Embassy advisor accused of censoring diplomatic reports in Israel
Reports indicate that David Milstein, a senior advisor to U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee, has systematically interfered with and censored diplomatic reports to present the Israeli government in a more positive light.
According to investigations, Milstein blocked an urgent report in March that criticized Israel's approval of new settlements in the West Bank—a move embassy staff believed risked violating U.S. policy. Furthermore, during a period of rising settler violence, Milstein allegedly altered reports to claim Israel was “responding” to attacks rather than failing to take adequate precautions.
Officials claim Milstein implemented a strict control mechanism, requiring all correspondence from the embassy's Palestinian affairs section to undergo his prior approval. This has reportedly paralyzed diplomatic communication, significantly reducing the volume of official cables sent to Washington and hindering Congressional oversight. While Ambassador Huckabee has defended Milstein, expressing “absolute confidence in his integrity,” concerned officials suggest these practices compromise professional diplomatic standards.
