U.S. Embassy and Baruta Municipality inaugurate Lincoln Plaza
The U.S. Embassy in Caracas and the Baruta Municipality have inaugurated the restored Lincoln Plaza in Colinas de Bello Monte, Miranda state. The event, held on October 9, focused on honoring the legacy of former U.S. President Abraham Lincoln.
The restoration of the public space and the statue of Lincoln is part of the ‘Freedom 250’ initiative, which commemorates the 250th anniversary of United States independence in 2026. The U.S. Embassy stated that the project aims to strengthen ties between the United States and Venezuela, advancing a three-phase plan.
Attendees included U.S. Chargé d'Affaires John Barrett and Baruta Mayor Darwin González. González described the statue as a “universal symbol of democratic perseverance,” while the Embassy noted the project highlights Lincoln’s legacy of economic recovery and prosperity.
