U.S. Embassy releases documentary on illegal migration risks

The U.S. Embassy in the Dominican Republic has released a documentary titled ‘El último viaje’ (The Last Journey), featuring Dominican urban music artist Carlos Pérez, known as ‘Capitán Aloo’. The film details Pérez’s experiences attempting to migrate to the United States through five failed attempts.

Pérez describes a particularly harrowing journey to Tampa, Florida, where he and five others hid inside a ship's cistern. He recounted spending days without food or water before surrendering to authorities. Following his arrest by Florida police, he was deported before making a final attempt toward Georgia.

The documentary also includes an interview with Abdías Ortiz, an attaché for Customs and Border Protection (CBP), who uses the narrative to warn against the dangers of illegal migration. Ortiz emphasized that the border is closed to such attempts and that individuals attempting illegal entry will face arrest and deportation.
