US Embassy requests return of donated vehicles in Serbia
The United States Embassy in Belgrade has requested that the Serbian Higher Public Prosecutor's Office (VJT) return two Nissan Qashqai vehicles that were donated several years ago to the Special Department for Combating Corruption (POSK).
Reports suggest the vehicles may have been used for personal convenience rather than their intended anti-corruption purposes. The U.S. Embassy has requested that the cars be immediately confiscated from the VJT and redirected back to the POSK as a donation.
The VJT has denied any wrongdoing, stating that the vehicles were used in accordance with the donation agreement. According to the VJT, the cars were utilized for official duties, including transporting department heads and prosecutors, attending seminars, and performing courier tasks such as delivering urgent and confidential mail. The VJT also noted that it had not been informed of the reasons for the requested return or the alleged irregularities.
