Germany implements pension reforms and subsidy changes
Germany is undergoing several shifts in economic policy and personal finance. Starting in 2027, Riester pension savers will have the option to transition to a pension investment depot, allowing for the use of funds and ETFs without mandatory contribution guarantees. Experts suggest that the decision to switch should depend on existing contract costs, remaining terms, and guarantees.
In social policy, the GKV Contribution Rate Stabilization Act will take effect on January 1, 2027. This change will eliminate sickness benefit claims for retirees receiving a pension of more than two-thirds of a full pension, effectively ending the practice of using a 99.99 percent partial pension to maintain benefits.
Regarding environmental subsidies, data from the Federal Office for Economic Affairs and Export Control (BAFA) shows that the new electric vehicle purchase premium, intended to support lower-income households through social tiering, is also being utilized for high-priced luxury models from manufacturers like Porsche, BMW, and Mercedes.
Additionally, various reports highlight regional and personal economic trends, including income distribution in Hamburg and financial management advice for individuals returning to work after parental leave.
