Trump administration pledges $15 billion in aid to US farmers

The Trump administration has announced a financial assistance package exceeding $15 billion for the US agricultural sector, aimed at mitigating rising costs for diesel, fertilizer, and other essential inputs. The announcement comes in the final weeks before the midterm elections, a period where rural voter support is considered critical for the Republican Party.

A significant portion of the aid, approximately $8 billion, is designated for a one-time payment program to assist farmers facing high diesel prices. Additionally, the USDA has announced at least $5 billion in guaranteed loans for ranchers and fishermen, $1.8 billion for producers and landowners in conservation programs, and $573 million for fertilizer manufacturing projects. Other allocations include $57 million for meat processing expansion and $86.6 million in grants for specialty crop innovation.

Separately, the USDA plans to provide $13.8 billion in safety net program payments for the 2025 crop year to support producers of corn, soybeans, wheat, and rice. While experts suggest these funds may cover increased fuel and fertilizer costs, the specific timing and distribution details for many of these payments remain unresolved.
