US inflation and budget deficit rise amid global market volatility

Global and domestic markets are reacting to significant shifts in inflation and fiscal policy. In the United States, consumer prices saw their fastest increase in five months, driven by rising energy costs. Producer prices also reached a four-year high. These inflationary pressures have increased market expectations for a Federal Reserve interest rate hike in December, with some pricing in a 90% probability.

Simultaneously, the U.S. federal budget deficit for fiscal year 2026 reached $1.99 trillion, a 12% increase from the previous year. This rise is attributed to growing debt servicing costs, with net interest expenses exceeding $1 trillion.

In Turkey, market participants' year-end inflation expectations have risen to 29.63%. Economists are closely watching the Central Bank of the Republic of Türkiye (TCMB) for its upcoming interest rate decision on October 22, 2026, with many anticipating a 100 basis point cut to 36%.

Commodity markets have also seen volatility. Spot gold prices experienced a weekly decline of 0.7%, closing at $4,165.12 per ounce, as investors weigh geopolitical risks against shifting interest rate expectations.
