U.S. Energy Officials Secure Power Supply as Data Center Build‑out Expands

The U.S. Department of Energy announced a pact with more than 200 key entities in the electricity sector to protect the bulk of the nation's power supply. The agreement, called the Ratepayer Protection pledge, aims to keep 80 % of electricity flowing to homes and businesses while shifting the cost of new infrastructure to corporations. President Donald Trump said the government will grant permits for companies to install their own generation facilities, and forecasts indicate residential electricity prices could rise 5.1 % in 2026 and a further 2.4 % in 2027.

Rep. Lee Zeldin affirmed that the rapid construction of new data‑center facilities, driven by expanding AI and cloud workloads, will not increase utility bills for consumers. He cited the same Ratepayer Protection pledge as assurance that the fiscal burden of the added electricity demand will be borne by the tech firms themselves, protecting households from higher costs.
