U.S. envoys hold three-hour meeting with Iranian delegation in New York

U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner held a three-hour meeting with an Iranian delegation in New York on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly. President Donald Trump described the discussions as “extremely productive” and indicated that an additional meeting between the two sides is expected to take place in the near future.

While the specific identities of the Iranian officials involved were not disclosed, the talks represent the first high-level negotiations between the two nations since the collapse of a ceasefire agreement and memorandum of understanding in July. Trump framed the diplomatic situation as a choice for Tehran, suggesting the country could either reach an agreement that allows for “potential greatness” or face “hell” and “mass destruction.”

Following the meeting, Witkoff stated, “I feel very good about the meeting.” Despite the productive nature of the talks, Trump noted that any potential direct meeting with Iranian leadership would require “significant results.”
