U.S. Boosts Intelligence Presence in Cuba Amid Heightened Pressure
The United States has deployed additional intelligence personnel and resources to Cuba, a move described by sources as an expansion of the CIA’s presence on the island. The deployment is part of the Trump administration’s broader pressure campaign demanding political and economic reforms from the Cuban government, but officials say there is no public evidence that a military operation has been authorized.
According to multiple reports, the CIA has secretly created a dedicated Cuba task force staffed with case officers, analysts, cyber‑operations specialists and covert‑influence operatives. The task force is intended to create divisions within Cuba’s political elite and to recruit officials or citizens who might assist Washington’s objectives. CIA Director John Ratcliffe visited Havana in May to deliver President Trump’s demands directly to senior Cuban officials.
The intelligence buildup coincides with a severe crisis on the island, including massive power blackouts, acute shortages of food and medicine, and soaring inflation. U.S. sanctions, an oil embargo and diplomatic isolation have intensified the pressure on the Cuban regime, while congressional leaders in Florida have pushed for further restrictions on companies doing business with the island.
