US expels Iranian diplomats and waives Egypt aid amid Iran conflict

Tensions between the United States and Iran continue to escalate as the conflict enters its 83rd day. In a significant diplomatic move, two members of the Iranian delegation to the United Nations General Assembly were expelled from the United States after failing to comply with a request to leave the country immediately.

On the military and aid front, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced that the United States will waive human rights requirements for $320 million in foreign military assistance to Egypt for fiscal year 2025. The decision, justified as necessary for U.S. national security and border security, cites Egypt’s “useful role” following the commencement of military operations involving Iran.

Meanwhile, reports indicate ongoing instability in Iran, including armed clashes between Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps forces and terrorist elements in the Rask region of Sistan and Baluchestan province. Regarding nuclear negotiations, while Bloomberg reported that Iran offered to grant inspectors access to bombed facilities in exchange for lifting sanctions, the news agency IRNA has denied these claims.
