US Extension agencies hold farmland lease workshops in Iowa and Nebraska

Extension services in the Midwest are offering a series of workshops to help landowners and tenants navigate agricultural lease agreements. In Atlantic, Iowa, a two‑and‑a‑half‑hour session on August 11 at the Cass County Community Center will cover cash rent trends, land values, legal updates and communication strategies. Program specialist Ann Johanns of Iowa State University Extension highlighted that more than half of Iowa’s farmland is rented and noted the 2026 cash rental rate averaged $270 per acre, a 0.4% decline.

Nebraska Extension is conducting a parallel series of free landlord‑tenant workshops starting August 13 in Fremont, Grand Island, Lincoln, Geneva, Columbus and Omaha. Presentations by agricultural economists Anastasia Meyer and Jim Jansen of the University of Nebraska‑Lincoln’s Center for Agricultural Profitability will focus on current cash rent rates, best‑practice leasing, and risk‑management tactics. Attendees receive meals and registration is required in advance.
