US faces fuel shortages and political tension amid ongoing Iran war

The ongoing conflict with Iran is causing significant economic and political strain in the United States. According to the Energy Information Administration (EIA), commercial gasoline reserves have fallen by 1.7 million barrels, while distillate inventories dropped by 2.3 million barrels. These shortages, driven by disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz, have left gasoline stocks 7% below the five-year average and distillates 14% below average.

Political figures are expressing concern over the conflict's impact on the upcoming midterm elections. Lara Trump warned that the war could cost Republicans control of Congress, a sentiment echoed by former Representative Barbara Comstock, who cited rising fuel prices and high interest rates as decisive factors. Senator Shelley Moore Capito also criticized the administration's inability to resolve the conflict after seven months, noting the rising cost of living for Americans.

In response to evolving warfare needs, the Pentagon has announced Project Meridian. Elon Musk, Palmer Luckey, and Newt Gingrich will co-lead this initiative to analyze and develop future military technologies and weaponry. The group has 120 days to determine the technological trajectories required for future conflicts.
