US family caregivers face financial and mental health crisis

A survey of 1,144 family caregivers conducted by Aeroflow Urology reveals that 77% of respondents feel financially overwhelmed by caregiving costs. With approximately 63 million family caregivers making up nearly a quarter of the U.S. adult population, the findings highlight significant economic and public health implications.

Key findings from the 2026 Caregivers in Crisis survey indicate that 57% of caregivers have reduced their work hours to provide care, while 11% have left their jobs entirely. Mental health struggles are also prevalent, with up to 90% of caregivers reporting recent experiences of stress, anxiety, or depression. Additionally, one in five caregivers reported operating without support from friends or family.
