FDA Advisory Committee Recommends Six Peptides for Compounding

The FDA’s Pharmacy Compounding Advisory Committee (PCAC) voted on July 23‑24 to recommend adding six peptide substances—BPC‑157, MOTS‑c, KPV, TB‑500, Epitalon and Semax—to the agency’s 503A Bulks List. Inclusion on the list would allow licensed compounding pharmacies to prepare these peptides for patients by prescription, moving them from a largely unregulated gray market toward a formal regulatory pathway.

The vote is a recommendation, not a final approval; the FDA must still decide whether to adopt the committee’s suggestion. Proponents view the move as a step toward greater oversight and patient safety, while many scientists warn that safety and efficacy data for the peptides remain limited. The decision could reshape how peptide therapies are accessed in the United States, but no legal status or safety endorsement has been granted yet.
