U.S. Federal Courts Block Transgender Policy Lawsuits

U.S. District Judge Julie Rubin denied a proposed national class action that sought to prevent the Justice Department from subpoenaing medical records of transgender minors receiving gender‑affirming care. While she reaffirmed her earlier decision quashing a subpoena to Children’s National Hospital, she did not grant the broader nationwide protection sought by the plaintiffs.

In a separate case, U.S. District Judge Amanda K. Brailsford issued a preliminary injunction halting key provisions of Idaho’s House Bill 752, which would have restricted bathroom access for transgender people. The judge questioned the law’s enforceability, noting the difficulty for police to determine an individual’s “biological sex” and highlighting vague language that could lead to discriminatory enforcement.
