U.S. federal debt accelerates toward $50 trillion projection
The United States federal debt is accelerating rapidly, with projections suggesting it could reach $50 trillion by 2029. Recent data shows the gross federal debt surpassed $39 trillion in March, following a swift climb from $37 trillion just seven months prior.
Investor and entrepreneur Jason Calacanis criticized the current administration's fiscal trajectory, stating that two major blunders—the rising national debt and conflict in the Middle East—will “scar the nation for years if not decades.” Calacanis noted that the debt under the current administration could add approximately $16.8 trillion, representing about 37 percent of the projected $45 trillion total debt upon the conclusion of the term. He further warned that interest payments on the debt could reach $1.2 trillion.
This fiscal surge follows reports that the budget deficit has reached its highest level since 2021, prompting concerns among market analysts regarding the long-term implications for the U.S. economy and stock market sectors.
