US Federal Reserve faces economic uncertainty amid inflation and growth

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has expressed support for the US Federal Reserve's approach of closely monitoring economic data before making monetary policy decisions. This stance comes as uncertainty remains high following the Fed's recent decision to maintain interest rates.

US inflation continues to remain above the Fed's 2% target. While the US economy grew at its fastest rate in a year during the third quarter—driven by resilient consumer spending and increased investment in Artificial Intelligence—rising oil prices linked to Middle East conflicts are complicating the outlook.

US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent noted that further interest rate hikes by the Fed would not necessarily be a mistake, emphasizing the need to balance full employment with price stability. Despite previous political pressures for lower rates, Bessent expressed confidence in Fed Chair Kevin Warsh's leadership and direction.
